With E3 2021 over and just a few more big gaming conferences slated for 2021, it’s easy to overlook all the amazing new announcements for years to come – the brain can only hold a ton of information, afterward. all. There has been a relative lack of incredible open-world games in recent years as well, leaving players with little hope for the genre in the future.
However, 2021 and 2022 are already shaping up to be huge years for open-world games. A number of classic RPGs receive long-awaited sequels or side stories from the great franchise, while others are brand new IPs that impatient fans can’t wait to find out. 2022 is far away, however, and it’s easy to overlook the major releases to come during this time.
8 Ancient ring
Of all the open-world games that 2022 will offer, perhaps none is more anticipated than Ancient ring. Although the game is created by the same team as the Dark souls series, the collaboration on the narrative involved the team working with none other than George RR Martin.
Fans of the The iron Throne the series also anticipated the last book in the decade-long series, The Winds of Winter, for what seems like an eternity. Until this book is finally released, they may be able to find some solace in experiencing what will surely be the most remarkable RPG of the year.
7 STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is one of the most revered horror titles of the early 2000s, and after more than 13 years, a sequel is finally on the horizon. STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is a direct sequel to its predecessor which includes much less of 2007 and much more of 2021.
The game is an open world, for example, rather than relatively linear like the original game was. It also features (of course) dramatically improved graphics compared to the original title. Much of the same, however, will be the case with the game’s intense focus on survival mechanics and hybrid horror / combat gameplay.
Bethesda has excited fans for the release of its most recent IP for what seems like an eternity. Starfield takes place in the future (as opposed to Ancient scrolls’ fantastic decor and To fallpost-apocalyptic setting) and will be geared around factions, exploration, and realistic sci-fi.
It was announced in 2018 but only received its official 2022 release date during the Bethesda E3 presentation in 2021. It is currently scheduled for release on November 22, 2021 (11/22/22). mirroring The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimrelease date November 11, 2011 (11/11/11).
5 Baldur’s Gate 3 (official release)
the Baldur’s Gate The series is well known to RPG fans for its satisfying tactical gameplay and its roots in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. It took a long time to do, but Baldur’s Gate 3 is already available to the public in the form of early access.
However, the game is also still in development and will be for the foreseeable future. Larion Studios is aiming for an official release date of 2022, however, after several updates and revamps to the game have ended.
4 Little Tina’s Wonderland
Of all the games announced at E3 2021, none were more surprising than Geearbox’s Little Tina’s Wonderland. This is not a DLC for Borders 3, but it is a direct continuation of the Little Tina’s assault on the dragon dungeon DLC for Borderlands 2.
the Dungeons and Dragons-the original themed DLC was loved by fans of the Borders series, so it is not surprising that among all the options he was chosen to receive an official derivative title. The game will feature RPG mechanics not normally seen in Borders games, like creating custom characters and an open world.
3 The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
TThe Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a great example of a game that has been featured prominently for a long time with no real news. Daedalic Entertainment has announced that the game will be released in 2022, and the Lord of the Rings fans are delighted to get into the mind of one of the strangest characters in all of fantasy fiction.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum follows Gollum’s journey as he hunts his precious, constantly torn between his dual personalities. The player will be able to influence the way Gollum interacts and perceives his world by choosing which voice to trust, in what feels like a satisfying stealth platform game.
2 Ark: Survival Evolved 2
The online survival game Ark peaked in popularity when it was added to Xbox Game Pass and only continued to grow exponentially over the following years. A suite, Arch II, was announced at E3 2021, with a surprise guest.
No one other than Vin Diesel will be present in Arch II, who appeared during the presentation to talk about the game. They’re an odd couple, but oddly enough, it pissed off the fan base even more. Dismissing Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel is the new favorite mate celebrity.
1 Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is a bit of a sleeper title, at least compared to some of the other heavy hitting open world games released in 2022. There hasn’t been a true Triple-A. Harry potter video game since the release of movie related games, and anyone who has played these games knows the myriad of disappointments they contain.
However, Hogwarts Legacy looks a little different. It takes place in the 1800s, before modern technology and long before all the events of the Harry potter series. It’s an open-world RPG that’s the first in a planned new franchise Harry potter games created by WB’s Portkey Studios, and everything that has been teased about it so far puts it way ahead of expectations.
