Northwest Florida solar installer showcases Tesla solar roof

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) – A solar installer in Northwest Florida this afternoon unveiled new technology for homeowners looking to get into solar power.

Using the sun’s rays and turning them into electricity is nothing new. But the Tesla solar roof is the future, according to those at SunFarm Energy.

“It’s actually the building envelope where we don’t mount a module on the roof, but it’s actually the roof,” said Doug Herrick, president and CEO of SunFarm Energy.

Rather than installing multiple solar panels, the Tesla Glass Roof acts like a large solar panel, generating enough energy to power an entire house.

“It is highly designed to withstand the forces in our region,” Herrick said.

Herrick says Tesla’s solar roof allows homeowners to reap the benefits of solar power, without having to sacrifice the look of their home.

“There is a lot of room for growth,” he said. “We could see the skin of the building, not just the roof, going down the line. “

The use of solar energy is steadily increasing, and Tesla’s technology is just the beginning of the future of renewable energy, according to Herrick.

“Our mission is to switch the Gulf Coast to renewable energies,” he said. “This is just another great sunscreen product that’s gaining a lot of interest. “

SunFarm Energy held an open house Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to give homeowners a chance to learn about the technology.
